Guitarist Valentijn Bannier (Naarden, 1987) was discovered at a young age by the members of the Brazilectro formation Zuco 103 with whom he toured all over the world. After that he went from band to band, from Lefties Soul Connection to Ruben Hein and from Giovanca to Steye. Until he felt the desire to do it himself. He went back to everything that once inspired him and Cirque Valentin was born: a unique act of like-minded people with whom he developed his music and performance. Valentijn played with great conviction with his crew, consisting of Suus de Groot (Sue the Night), Cato van Dijck (My Baby), Anan den Boer (Kane), Jaimie van Hek (Voicst) and Victor Dirix (Eddy Zoë) about a hundred times in the country. Then the time was ripe for a first album. 'On Pleasure Island' was released in September 2014 by the Amsterdam label Dox Records, known for Wouter Hamel, New Cool Collective & Benny Sings.
Cirque Valentin won the Sena Pop NL Performance Award in 2012 and has already played at festivals such as Noorderslag, De Parade, Uitmarkt and in clubs such as Paradiso, Melkweg, Tivoli, Patronaat. Valentijn is currently working on the band's next release.
Around the same time that Cirque was founded, Valentijn started the Afro-Beat band Koffie with 2 classmates from the Amsterdam Pop Conservatory. Koffie (also Dox Records) has released two albums and has performed at major festivals such as Zwarte Cross, North Sea Jazz Festival, Oerol, Haarlem Jazz, Polé Polé (Ghent) due to their good live reputation.
Valentijn also plays in the country funk band Steye & The Bizonkid, with whom he also writes and records. Frontman Steye made the first interactive 360º video clip in the world for the band, for which the band was nominated for the Berlin Music Video Awards and recently performed at the Sonar Festival in Barcelona.
